Educational project: Logical-Mathematical

The evolution of logical-mathematical thinking is essential for the development of future cognitive functions. Our logical-mathematical project is based on the child being able to relate freely and intuitively and interact through the physical and social environment. These interactions are based on observation, manipulation and experimentation, with the aim of using their own sensations and perceptions to build their own knowledge and interpretation of reality.

The sequence of the project proposes discovering one's own body at the earliest ages, the first movements at the P0 level will be those that allow them to develop and organize their thinking and discover their closest environment and some everyday objects. In P1 they will explore materials and objects to discover characteristics and properties such as color, size and texture, among others. In P2 they will experiment with shapes, weight, consistency and make their first classifications by properties through experiential activities that allow them to discover through their own experience. All this knowledge that is actively integrated is the basis for the development of the child's logical thinking.

Some of the activities we carry out to promote the construction of thinking are:

  • BASKET OF TREASURES (P0) Through this activity, children freely explore different everyday objects. This allows them to discover, through experience, the qualities of their environment, increase their ability to concentrate, stimulate hand-eye coordination and structure their thinking, among other things.

  • HEURISTIC GAME (P1) The term “heuristic” comes from Greek and means “to discover.” This activity is designed as a continuation of the treasure basket for children between 12 and 24 months, which is the time when the child has already begun to move. The most significant objectives that we want to achieve with children is for them to acquire notions of volume, color, discrimination between categories of objects, establishing the basis of logical-mathematical thinking.

  • SYMBOLIC PLAY (P2) Through symbolic play, children play freely and spontaneously, performing a role-play. At this point in development, children little by little integrate mental representations that allow them to make their own interpretation of the world around them.
